Diffuse interstellar bands and extinction: correlative studies

High resolution, high quality spectra of early-type stars are combined to Geneva photometry to study the relationship between the strength of some diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs) and the color excess. The contamination by telluric or stellar lines is carefully corrected for. For at least two strong DIBs, we find a tighter correlation with extinction than previously published. We investigate the potential sources of departure from the main relationship, in particular by using a global 3D distribution of dust in the solar neighborhood
