MeerGAL: A MeerKAT high frequency Galactic Plane Survey
The 64-dish MeerKAT telescope will be the most sensitive cm-wave telescope in the Southern Hemisphere. After a call for large survey proposals, the MeerGAL survey was awarded a total of 3300 hours as part of the priority group 2 surveys. We will carry out a 10-14 GHz survey of the galactic plane. The flexibility of the MeerKAT correlator will enable us to do broadband continuum observations of young HII regions as well as simultaneous high resolution spectral line observations of masers and RRLs. We present the MeerKAT specifications, development schedule and discuss the goals of the MeerGAL survey.
