Ammonia Observations of Starless Cores on the Brink

We intend to constrain through observations the physical state of cores that are on the verge of star formation. To accomplish this, we have observed suitable candidates of dense cores culled from current surveys of nearby molecular clouds in molecular emission that trace well the temperatures, densities, and dynamics of the cores, such as NH3 and N2H+. Here, we present large-scale maps of NH3 emission of our sample of cores acquired with K-band Focal Plane Array at the Green Bank Telescope and the results of modeling their temperature, density and velocity structures.
